The Topeka High School Jr. ROTC students held a food drive at HyVee on December 21st. It was a chilly Saturday, just days before Christmas, with a winter storm in the forecast. Undeterred, the students busily helped bag and carry out groceries for customers all day in an effort to spread holiday cheer and raise awareness for their cause.
Happily, their efforts were not in vain. Katherine Jennings, Harvesters Constituent Relationship Coordinator, reports that the students brought in a whopping 4,506 lbs of food that day--- enough food to provide 3,755 meals to the hungry in Topeka. “I was extremely impressed by the hard work and enthusiasm of everyone involved,” said Jennings.
We wish to acknowledge the Topeka High School Jr. ROTC members, led by instructors Chief Warrant Officer Gunner Kelley and Sgt. Major Lewallen, for their enduring generosity to the Topeka community.
